Exchangeable sodium / gypsum requirement

Hanna Instruments Exchangeable sodium (ES) and Gypsum requirement (GR) test kit. If soils have a high proportion of sodium on cation exchange sites then structure and nutrient capacity will be reduced. This can happen if water high in sodium is used for irrigation. One remedy is to topdress with calcium sulphate to reestablish a good balance of cations. The kit calculates ES as meq / 100 gms soils (meq%) and GR as Tonnes / ha. All items are included to perform a sodium extraction on a sample of soil using calcium sulphate.The amount of calcium adsorbed and the equivalent amount of sodium displaced from the soil is then determined by a titration for calcium. 100 tests.
